COPA Description:
The Metro Suburban Recovery Learning Community is an exciting new project funded by the Department of Mental Health. There are currently six recovery learning communities (RLC) in Massachusetts, one in each region of the state. Recovery learning community's goal is to develop a regional consumer community supporting consumers in mental health recovery. Recovery learning communities collaborate with current peer-run organizations within their region & create additional peer-run activities. Recovery learning communities offer information & referral, access to a variety of peer support & self-help activities, individual & systems advocacy and training opportunities. Recovery learning communities stimulate and participate in culture change among mental health services which focus on promoting resilience, self-determination, empowerment and wellness, rather than a narrow focus on symptom reduction.
