Responsibilities: The position as Peer Specialist on the Community Based Flexible Support Team supports the mission of Bay Cove by providing an array of comprehensive rehabilitation services for people with mental illness.  All of our supports are self –directed, strength-based, and promote each person’s overall stability, dignity, achievement of personal life goals, and recovery.   As a member of a flexible support team, the peer specialist will collaborate with clinicians and rehabilitation specialists.  They will work individually or as part of a group helping participants to connect to community institutions and activities as well as build networks of supportive relationships.   

Qualifications:     Obtained a high school degree or high school equivalency diploma, some college preferred and an acceptable CORI (criminal record assessment).  Peer Specialist certification is required, but may be obtained during the first year of employment. A willingness and ability to serve as a mentor to others who are in the process of recovery by sharing their own recovery experience. Also has a solid understanding of rehabilitation and recovery concepts. Peer Specialists are computer literate in Windows, Word and the internet.  They are able to engage in relationship building with designated individuals served by the team.  They lead peer groups at CBFS sites and engage in specific coaching or educational services including WRAP and Wellness Planning, and skills training.  They assist with Individual Action Plan (IAP) development for designated individuals according to Bay Cove Human Services, CARF, Medicaid Rehab Option, and Dept. of Mental Health licensing regulations including Performance Based Contracting Standards and provide support to the team by facilitating active use of the IAP by team members.  Peer Specialists are required to write Progress Notes, enter data, and review progress in accordance with Rehabilitation Option Standards. They must have the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional team, and to maintain professional boundaries with program participants.  A Peer Specialist will function under pressure in a fast-paced human service environment and have the  ability to be flexible, open and responsive to ongoing administrative changes, including being able to work independently with limited supervisory support.  Drivers License preferred but not required.
