Job Title:                    Peer Counseling Project Coordinator for Services to the Mental Health Community Program (35 hours per week)

Job Function:               To work closely and effectively with persons with psychiatric disabilities by facilitating and promoting their inclusion in the community, through the provision of individual and group peer counseling and peer advocacy. Coordinator will conduct trainings for consumers who wish to become peer counselors. Will oversee peer counseling staff, counselors and counselee and provide supervision and support on a regular basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As Peer Counseling Project (PCP) Coordinator you will oversee the PCP project, its staff and volunteers. 
  • Provide individual and group supervision, mentoring and support as well as ongoing training for stipend workers and volunteers.
  • Provide peer advocacy  for consumers
  • Provide 1:1 and group peer counseling.
  • Recruit and train other consumers to provide peer counseling.
  • Ensure ongoing training for PCP staff, stipend PCP workers and volunteers.
  • Provide NILP core services to program participants, including information and referral, skills training, peer counseling, individual and systems advocacy.
  • Use own recovery story and teach others to use their recovery stories in their work.
  • Provide education to community at large regarding issues affecting people with disabilities.
  • Maintain strict standards of confidentiality at all times and in accordance with federal HIPAA laws.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Provide proper documentation of services via the IDMS data entry system.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of all types of oppression, particularly the issues faced by people who have been psychiatrically labeled.
  • Experience as a person who has been psychiatrically labeled and ability to share personal recovery story publicly is highly valued.
  • Prior experience facilitating groups and/or meetings is necessary, with experience in designing and/or providing trainings required.
  • Prior supervisory experience highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in community organizing is highly valued.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, computer, and writing skills required.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues concerning IL philosophy and a commitment to the recovery model preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Access to reliable transportation essential.

Reports to:       Director of the Recovery Learning Community at NILP

Salary/Benefits: Salary as per contract.  Benefits as stated in agency Employee Manual.

Review Policy: Supervisor will complete performance appraisal with employee at the completion of a three-month probation period. Job duties/assignments will be reviewed at this time. Thereafter, performance appraisals will be completed and reviewed annually.

Job Title:                    Full-time Advocacy and Resource Coordinator for Services to the Mental Health Community’s Recovery Learning Community at NILP

Job Function:               To work closely and effectively with persons with psychiatric disabilities by facilitating and promoting their inclusion in the community, through the provision of recovery-oriented skills training, peer counseling and especially peer advocacy. As lead peer advocate at the RLC, the Advocacy and Resource Coordinator will design and implement peer advocacy trainings and develop a corps of volunteer and stipend peer advocates. Will also oversee, develop and maintain the Recovery Learning Community’s Resource Connection Center and Library.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As Advocacy and Resource Coordinator at the RLC, will oversee and maintain its Resource Library as well as providing primary support and supervision of stipend and volunteer RLC peer advocates.
  • Will provide individual and group supervision, mentoring and support as well as ongoing training for stipend and volunteer peer advocates.
  • Will take the lead in developing a peer run warm line or will provide ongoing support as needed to any existing peer run warm lines

Job Function:               To work closely and effectively with existing culturally competent recovery based peer to peer programs for Spanish speaking consumers with psychiatric disabilities. Identify and establish cooperative relationships with culturally competent recover based peer to peer programs for Asian speaking consumers with psychiatric disabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement culturally competent peer support groups and 1:1 peer support activities.
  • Recruit and train other consumers to provide peer support.
  • Help develop and coordinate culturally competent recovery-oriented skills-training workshops.
  • Translate English materials into materials that are culturally competent.
  • Provide NILP core services to program participants, including information and referral, technical assistance and skills training, peer counseling, community education, and individual and systems advocacy.
  • Use own recovery story and teach others to use their recovery stories in their work.
  • Provide education to community at large regarding issues affecting people with disabilities.
